Wear Debris Analysis

One of several techniques for collecting data on the condition of an asset for predictive maintenance (PdM) purposes.  


Application:

This technique analyzes the particles of wear debris, such as:

  • Iron filings
  • Fan belt fray
  • Carpet pile


Purpose


Process
This technique analyzes the particles present in fluids that indicate mechanical wear.  

  • Purchase equipment or engage contractor
  • Train staff
  • Determine sample size, location and interval
  • Send sample off for analysis  
  • Analyze the results
  • Grade the results
  • Make maintenance decisions
