Failure Free Operating Period (F-FOP)

A maintenance free operating period (M-FOP) is defined as a period of time (or appropriate units) during which a system is both operational and is able to carry out its required function(s) without maintenance activities and without encountering failures.

A failure free operating period (F-FOP) is defined as a period of time (or appropriate units) during which no failures, resulting in a loss of system functionality occur. maintenance failure free operating periods (M/F-FOPs) are measures of reliability and can be used to replace the traditional mean time between failure (MTBF) approach. M/F-FOPs has the potential to offer the user an increase in the application effectiveness and enhanced operational availability of a system.
