Discretionary/Optional
Something, such as a maintenance task, that is considered optional.

This is considered acceptable and rational behaviour either because the assets are:
  • Not bounded by local statutes
  • The consequence (or risks) of failing to carry out the maintenance are low
  • No health and safety significance
Discretionary items are often aesthetic in nature.

Examples:
  • Painting of the interior walls
