Classification

The categorization and organization of information into logical groups. 

For example, some  common classification systems are the organization into the following scales: 

  • Alphabetical (A, B, C...), 
  • Chronological (1, 2, 3...), 
  • Reverse chronological (10, 9, 8,..), and 
  • Numerical.

In asset management, classification is necessary to distinguish between systems in a building, assets within systems and elements of an inventory.
